What is Week to Week?

This is going to be a weekly update/journal on my portfolio. Almost 7 weeks back I, very shrewdly, acquired $20,000 to invest in the American markets and this blog is going to serve as my weekly update on the portfolio.

Some background:

I am not an experienced trader and I do not come from a family of stockbrokers. My interest in the financial markets began as I did the Wharton Investment Competition with my friends and figured out that the process behind investment in stocks and etfs is quite interesting. As Warren Buffett says, “Time in the market is better than timing in the market”, the portfolio will help me gain time in the market and hopefully my investments help prove Mr. Buffett correct.

My goals:

1. As stated earlier, and at the cost of repeating myself, the primary purpose of the portfolio is to give me exposure to the market.

2. Make smart investments that yield long-term returns.

3. Don’t lose any money (at the least)

My report as of today:

1. The stock market is a funny place and money can be made just as quickly as it can be lost, if not lost quicker and in multitudes.

2. There are too many external factors at play simultaneously and being informed about them is of primal importance.

3. Patience is the name of the game. You need to believe in your investment and give the market time to recover from its downward cycle.

4. Always always always buy the dips.

5. It is very difficult to gauge how long the dip will last.

6. I made $130 on Visa at a 6.3% profit and $85 on Moderna on a 15% profit.

7. It is difficult for me to nail down a particular strategy because I keep learning more everyday and want to diversify constantly.

FIN:

I’m trying to keep this very concise, though I have a lot more to share, because I want this to be a compelling read to my 4 readers. I’ll try sharing more data from the portfolio and give a more comprehensive write-down of my thought process behind my trades.

I’ll also post another update on the weekend.

Thank you,
Anuj.
